Confirm in the field

Is this condition index inside the range the program reviews?

The generated condition index falls outside the range configured for the exam form.

What to do: Recheck the mass and shell length at the next exam before reading the index.

Run 17 Aug 2026 Review 7 records
Executed · 6 questions, one per record For review

Plan around it

Is a relocation visit due for this animal and season?

The interval between generated relocations is longer than the configured tracking schedule allows.

What to do: Put the animal on the next telemetry round so the season has no further gap.

Methods

Where a screen and this page differ, one of them has a defect.

How every figure on these screens is computed

Every record here is generated and runs through 17 Aug 2026. Each section below names the screen it explains; every number in it is read from the same setting or count the screen uses.

Action center

The field queue

What is drawn
One row per tracked animal, listed once under its most urgent open item: 24 of 24 tracked animals carry at least one.
When it appears
Only the tracked cohort is listed: 24 of 168 identified animals. Days are counted to 17 Aug 2026, the date the records run through, never to today.
What counts as an open item
No relocation for more than 730 days, with no deployment end recorded, is lost contact (12 animals); every other item then waits until the animal is located. A transmitter fitted more than 730 days ago is due for a swap. A shell length above 322 mm or a mass above 6,800 g, or an adult below 180 mm or 1,500 g, is a size check: re-measure, never a verdict. No exam in 2026 is an assessment due.
What would throw it off
A relocation filed against the wrong animal, or a deployment end left blank, moves an animal into or out of lost contact and changes every item below it.

Movement

Positions and use intensity

What is drawn
Each usable encounter is one point on the range: 2,479 of 2,479 encounter records carry a usable position.
When it appears
A position is usable when it has a finite coordinate pair and a date. No line ever joins two positions: a recorded position does not imply a traveled path.
What counts as a busy cell
Positions are binned into cells of about 200 m. A larger circle means more fixes in that cell, which measures survey effort, not abundance.
What would throw it off
A position with no recorded accuracy is treated as good to 12 m, so it can sit in the neighboring cell. A position recorded in the wrong place is drawn where it is recorded.

Health

Health exams

What is drawn
Assessment coverage by year: the share of exams in which a field was assessed, over 431 exams on 64 animals.
When it appears
A year is drawn only when an exam carries a usable date. Signs are counted only at exams, never across the 2,479 encounter records.
What counts as a scorable exam
An exam that assessed every sign field: 349 of 431 exams qualify, and only those count toward a sign share.
What would throw it off
Reading a blank sign field as healthy. A blank is not assessed, and counting it as a clean exam would raise both coverage and the healthy share.

Data & methods: Reports

Reports

What is drawn
Each report prints one table and, above it, a second computation of its own totals.
When it appears
Every time the pane opens, from the records as loaded (through 17 Aug 2026); a report that cannot be prepared says so instead of printing zeros.
What counts as agreement
Two totals agree when they are equal, or when a part does not exceed its whole. Every pair is listed with both values under The pairs compared.
What would throw it off
A record that belongs to no animal breaks a pair, and the report then leads with the disagreement rather than the table.

What these records can and cannot support

Read from the claim policy every figure on these screens obeys: 13 of 20 quantities can be drawn for at least one record group, 7 are refused outright, and 8 are refused for some groups.

These records support (13)

  • Counts of records Every record group. Caveat for pooled: A pooled count adds a record made by walking a plot to a record made by walking up to a collar, and the two are not the same event.
  • Composition of the records by sex and size Record groups: search arm, collar arm. Caveat for collar arm: Read from a fixed set of already-collared animals, so it describes the collar roster and never the population it was drawn from.
  • Encounters per person-day Record groups: search arm. Caveat for search arm: An index of encounters corrected for person-days only, which assumes detection is constant across everything compared, and detection is not.
  • Detection probability Record groups: search arm. Caveat for search arm: Computed here only to show its spread across plots, and the closure the estimator assumes is violated by a survey window measured in weeks.
  • Minimum number known alive Record groups: search arm. Caveat for search arm: A census minimum with a guaranteed negative bias whose size moves with capture probability, so a change in it can be a change in detectability.
  • An abundance estimate Record groups: search arm. Caveat for search arm: The estimator is constructed here only to show its spread and its closure violation, and no abundance estimate is reported by this build.
  • Recapture rate Record groups: search arm.
  • A home range Record groups: collar arm. Caveat for collar arm: Drawn as an area, named as a minimum convex polygon, and never called a home range: the published autocorrelated-kernel estimate on the same relocations reads larger, so the polygon is a floor.
  • A space-use outline (minimum convex polygon) Record groups: collar arm. Caveat for collar arm: A minimum convex polygon of the drawn relocations, with its own n printed beside it, and an area that grows with the number of relocations rather than with the animal.
  • A body-condition index Every record group. Caveat for search arm, collar arm: The stored index is drawn as recorded and cannot be recomputed, because two of the four measurements its published formula needs are absent from these records. Caveat for pooled: The index is a per-animal measurement rather than a property of the sampling process, so the two arms may be drawn on one axis, and they are drawn as two named pools rather than as one.
  • Growth between exams Every record group. Caveat for search arm: A stored annual rate on the animal record rather than a difference computed between two measurements, so it carries the generator's growth model and not a measured change. Caveat for collar arm: A stored annual rate on the animal record rather than a difference computed between two measurements. Caveat for pooled: The stored rate is a per-animal attribute and does not depend on which instrument recorded the animal.
  • Share of exams recording a clinical sign Every record group. Caveat for search arm, collar arm, pooled: The unit is the exam occasion, not the animal, so this is the share of scorable exams that recorded a sign and never the share of tortoises ever affected; the denominator is complete-case, counting only exams where every sign field was assessed, and the interval resamples whole animals because one much-examined animal must not read as many independent exams.
  • Human-context codes recorded Every record group. Caveat for pooled: A pooled count adds a record made by walking a plot to a record made by walking up to a collar, and the two are not the same event; these are counts of encounter records carrying a code, not exposure and not a rate.

These records do not support (7)

  • Density Search arm: Density is not computed. The plot areas are printed on these figures so that this refusal is checkable, not so that anyone can divide by them: the effective sampled area is larger than the plot, because animals whose ranges only partly overlap it are still findable. Collar arm: Density is not computed. The collar arm has no sampled area at all. Pooled: Density is not computed on either arm and is not computed across them.
  • A path between recorded positions Search arm: No path is drawn. Consecutive encounters on the search arm are seasons apart, and the line between them would describe a journey nobody observed. Collar arm: No path is drawn. Relocations are a week apart at the median, so a connecting line is an interpolation drawn at the same weight as the observations, and a reader cannot tell which is which. Pooled: No path is drawn on either arm.
  • A body-condition contrast between groups Search arm: No contrast in the condition index is reported. Every axis this corpus offers is measured flat, and a flat contrast quoted beside a real binomial reads as a finding about the species. Collar arm: No contrast in the condition index is reported. Pooled: No contrast in the condition index is reported, and the two arms differ in it by less than the width of a rounding.
  • Respiratory disease prevalence Search arm: No prevalence of upper respiratory tract disease is reported. A percentage beside a real binomial is quotable the moment it is screenshotted, and this corpus is flat on every axis it could be split by, so no contrast justifies printing one. Collar arm and pooled: No prevalence of upper respiratory tract disease is reported.
  • Survival Search arm: No survival curve is computed. An animal not seen again on a plot survey has not been observed to die, and the generator's fates are not in these records. Collar arm: No survival curve is computed, for animals or for devices. The censoring is not observable: a device reading active and an animal with no relocation for years are two accounts of one fact and they disagree. Pooled: No survival curve is computed on either arm.
  • Transmitter lifetime Search arm: The search arm carries no devices. Collar arm: Transmitter lifetime is not estimated. The devices that report an end give a duration; the devices that report no end are contradicted by their own animals' silence, so the censoring times cannot be used and the honest output is the failure-mode ledger instead. Pooled: Transmitter lifetime is not estimated.
  • Shelter sites No shelter site is drawn. Shelter ids are recorded per encounter without a surveyed position; positions sharing an id spread nearly as widely as the animal's whole track.
Refused for some record groups only (8)
  • Composition of the records by sex and size Refused for: pooled. Composition is not pooled across the two instruments. One arm samples a plot and the other re-samples a fixed roster, so a pooled share is a share of the sampling design.
  • Encounters per person-day Refused for: collar arm, pooled. Collar arm: There is no effort denominator on the collar arm. A relocation is scheduled, not searched for, so encounters per unit effort has no meaning here. Pooled: Two arms with two different denominators do not share a rate. One is per person-day and the other has no denominator at all.
  • Detection probability Refused for: collar arm, pooled. Collar arm: Detection is one by construction on the collar arm. An animal is located because it is already carrying a transmitter, so there is no detection process to estimate. Pooled: Detection is not pooled. One arm has an unmodelled detection process and the other has none.
  • Minimum number known alive Refused for: collar arm, pooled. Collar arm: Minimum number known alive describes a sampled population. The collar arm is a roster chosen in advance, so its minimum known alive is the roster. Pooled: Minimum number known alive is not pooled across a searched plot and a chosen roster.
  • An abundance estimate Refused for: collar arm, pooled. Collar arm: Abundance is not estimable from relocations of animals chosen in advance. There is no capture process and no unmarked fraction. Pooled: Abundance is not estimable from the two arms together.
  • Recapture rate Refused for: collar arm, pooled. Collar arm: Every collar relocation is a recapture of a known animal. A recapture rate on this arm is one by construction and says nothing about the animals. Pooled: A recapture rate pooled across an arm where recapture is uncertain and an arm where it is guaranteed is a weighted average of a measurement and a tautology.
  • A home range Refused for: search arm, pooled. Search arm: A home range needs repeated positions through a season. The search arm sees a median of three encounters per animal across the whole record. Pooled: A home range is not computed across the two instruments.
  • A space-use outline (minimum convex polygon) Refused for: search arm, pooled. Search arm: The search arm's encounters are too few and too far apart in time to enclose anything meaningful. Pooled: No polygon is drawn across the two instruments.
